A way to glimpse Farcaster and the Base app from the ridgeline — see what’s there, whether it’s alive, and how much to trust the reading — without fully entering either.
How to read it. Every place is coloured by its vitality (thriving → fading) and marked with an evidence tier — how solid the reading is. The one thing to see first: the two worlds used to be connected, and that connection was cut in early 2026. You are the teal beacon, standing at Paragraph, deciding whether to cross.
Position is meaning: the Farcaster world on the left, the Coinbase/Base world on the right, and the broken span between them. Numbers key to the places below.
One glimpse each — what you’d see standing at the edge, without going in.
Farcaster
protocolThe open social protocol — accounts (FIDs) and posts (casts) you own, portable across apps. The crypto-native “X alternative.” The audience we’d be registering into.
Neynar
infrastructureThe plumbing everyone builds on (APIs, signers) — and, as of Jan 2026, the owner of Farcaster itself (~$1B, ~$180M returned to backers). The ecosystem consolidated into its infra layer.
farcaster.xyz
the clientThe main app people actually open (renamed from Warpcast). Still supports feeds and mini-apps natively — the one surface where Farcaster content genuinely reaches readers today.
Paragraph
publishing · our homeWhere ROVA already lives. Integrates Farcaster three ways: post-URLs surface Farcaster comments, a @paragraph bot casts summaries, and wallet+FID connect enables one-tap subscribe. Now billing itself “the media engine for startups.”
ROVA · @rovaandco
you are hereA Paragraph publication with no Farcaster identity yet. @rovaandco is available; @rova was already taken from under us. Registering (~$5–7/yr, deposit-free) plants a flag in a graph — it does not auto-distribute posts.
Coinbase / Base
company & L2The public company and its layer-2 chain — the well-funded parent behind the Base app. This is where BASIS, DegenClaw, and the onchain-trading world actually sit. Strong ground.
Base app
super-appCoinbase Wallet, rebranded July 2025. Launched with a Farcaster social feed — then removed it (Feb 2026) and dropped Farcaster identity entirely (Apr 2026). Now a wallet + trading + payments “everything app,” onchain-first.
Zora
tokenised contentThe tokenise-your-posts layer the Base app leaned on at launch. A parallel “content becomes an asset” model — adjacent to us, not a reader-reach surface.
The bridge
severed connectionFor ~7 months the Base app was the mainstream on-ramp to Farcaster content — the one place a big audience met crypto-native posts. That span is the whole reason “register on Farcaster” looked like distribution. It was cut in early 2026.
The bridge we were quietly counting on is out. There was a real window — mid-2025 — when Base app + Farcaster + Paragraph could have been genuine mainstream distribution. It closed in early 2026, before we reached it. So the honest reading:
Registering @rovaandco is cheap insurance on a name in a contracting graph — not a way to be seen.
It’s still worth the ~$5–7/yr if you want to hold the handle (we already lost @rova) and keep the option open. But it isn’t the reception lever, and I won’t sell it to you as one. Where ROVA’s readers actually come from is still unsolved — and “we’ll register on Farcaster” had been standing in for solving it.
One thread the map does surface, held loosely: the Base app didn’t die — it turned toward onchain trading, which is exactly where BASIS and DegenClaw live. The interesting question may not be “how do our essays reach the Base app’s dead feed” but “does its trading turn open a different door for our onchain agents.” A thread to pull deliberately — not a new door to run through.
Update · 2026-07-18. A census landed after this map that sharpens exactly this thread. On Virtuals — the one venue that claimed onchain agent-service demand — that demand turned out to be airdrop-manufactured wash-farming, dead the month the incentive ended. So read the door demand-first: the live question isn’t only “does the Base app’s trading turn open a door for our onchain agents” — it’s “is there organic agent demand behind any such door,” which Virtuals did not have. Pull the thread; verify the demand before betting on the door.
A map you can trust names its own blind spots. These are the readings I’d verify before betting anything on them.
